Cliff Gillam

Cliff Gillam holds the degrees of Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours) (1971) and Master of Arts (With Distinction) (1973) from the University of Western Australia. He was awarded a Hackett Studentship in 1972. He lectured in English at UWA for many years.
He holds further postgraduate qualifications from Curtin University (Post Graduate Diploma in Business, With Distinction 1992) and Monash University (Master of Public Policy and Administration, 2005). He was awarded the Monash Department of Management Top Graduating Student Prize in the MPPA program, 2005.
He is currently the Executive Director, Workforce, of the Department of Education in Western Australia, and has worked as a senior executive in the WA public sector for fifteen years. Before appointment to his present position in 2009, Cliff was the Executive Director of People and Organisational Development at the Public Transport Authority during the period of the construction of the Southern Suburbs (Mandurah) rail link (2003-2007).
Cliff has served as a member of the Senate Financial Review and Audit Committee of the University (2003-2005). He was a member of the academic staff as a lecturer in the English Department from 1975 to 1981 and worked professionally in live theatre in Perth before commencing a public service career in 1990.
He has been an active supporter of the arts In Perth, serving as the first Chair of Artrage. He was made a Life Member of Artrage in 1992. He was made a Fellow of the Australian Human Resources Institute in 2003.
For many years, Cliff Gillam was active as an actor, writer, director and producer of theatre in Perth. His misspent youth included management of rock bands and a stint as a rock concert impresario. He has been listening to Dylan for fifty years.
