Glenn Pattinson took up beekeeping in his backyard, in inner city Perth, in 1995. What started as a hobby quickly grew; one hive became 12 by the end of the first season. He apprenticed himself to older beekeepers to learn the way of the bee. Sixteen years on Glenn manages 150 hives and runs Elixir Honey – a small Western Australian honey company. Glenn has been president of Western Australian Beekeepers Association (WABA), on the committees for the Western Australian Apiarists Society (WAAS) and Agriculture Protection Committee – Beekeepers Section (APC) committees. He has exported bees to Canada and conducted specialized disease resistant breeding programs including artificial insemination of queens.
