Social Media for Business

Consultants, small business owners, freelancers and anybody whose personal reputation is an important part of their business now need to project a good image online. This course will show participants to the various ways to promote their work and develop their platform online and will include hands on activities to get the process well underway. Participants will set up and optimise a Facebook business page, learn about using Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn effectively, and gain plenty of useful tips for ensuring their online presence works for their business.

When prospective clients hear your name these days, a good proportion of them will google you before parting with their cash. What will they find? Actively building your online presence by using social media tools such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter will both solve this problem and create a community around your work. Social media is the ultimate “word of mouth” tool so you can use these sites to effectively and efficiently promote your business.

This course will both explain the relevance of each tool and provide you with a hands-on opportunity to set up and optimise your various online profiles.

During this course, you will learn about:

  • Setting up a Facebook page for fans with appropriate content
  • Using LinkedIn to connect with relevant professionals
  • Deciding whether Twitter is a suitable platform and how to use it
  • Revising your existing website or options for setting one up
  • Considering using a blog to promote your work
  • Monitoring your online reputation using Google Alerts
  • Using other field-relevant sites such as Google+, Pinterest and others.


Participants MUST bring their own laptop PC or MacBook computer capable of accessing the WiFi provided.

Participants should have basic keyboarding skills and be familiar with using their computer.

If participants already have log-ins to the following social media sites, they should bring their username and password information with them: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google/Gmail

This course will be held at The University Club of Western Australia.

Lunch will be provided and is included in the cost.
