The Maths Competency Test (MCT) is designed for applicants who have met entry requirements for UWA other than a mathematics prerequisite.
It is also suitable for applicants:
• who have completed a mathematics subject at matriculation level elsewhere, but where the comparability is equivocal
• for non-school-leavers with no formal matriculation-level qualification in mathematics (or the qualification is older than five years), but who believe they can meet the required standard for entry.
The MCT is accepted as satisfying the mathematics requirement for UWA courses that list 'At least WACE Mathematics 2C/2D” as a prerequisite, namely: Commerce, Computer Science (but not Computer and Mathematical Sciences), Economics, Health Science, Science – 3 Year (only applicable to majors and named programs which list “At least WACE Mathematics 2C/2D” as a prerequisite) and Science – 4 Year.
If you use the MCT to satisfy the mathematics prerequisite for admission to a course requiring at least WACE Mathematics 2C/2D, you will generally be required to take an additional mathematics unit in the first year of your course. For more information on eligibility for admission to degree courses please contact the Admissions Centre on 6488 2477.
The test includes three sections: Section I: Algebra Section II: Functions, Sequences and Basic Statistics Section III: Budgeting and Discounting. To pass this exam students must achieve over 50% in each section and an overall pass mark of 65%.
Math Competency Tests are scheduled throughout the year, with more tests being held immediately prior to enrolment periods at UWA. You can find all scheduled Maths Competency Tests here.
